Ash completed his SWBioDTP PhD studentship jointly with Professor Matt Crump (University of Bristol) and Professor Rick Titball (University of Exeter) studying the structure/function of bacterial Toxin/Antitoxin systems. Since 2019 Ash has undertaken Post-doctoral research (Professors Matt Crump & Chris Willis) primarily focused on the functional characterisation of how the polyketide antibiotic mupirocin is biosynthesized as well as functional investigations into various additional polyketide systems. Ash is an expert in protein purification, mass spectrometry, NMR and SAXS and uses these tools to interrogate polyketides on a system wide level. In his spare time, Ash can be found at music gigs, running around, or supporting Southampton FC.
